Book Cover Design

The prompt for this project was to create an entire book jacket with hand lettering for a hardcover volume. In the end, it was to be screen printed and photographed on the appropriate book. This included a design for the spine and inside flaps. Several books were contenders for this project. As an avid reader, I was very passionate about this design and finding which story I wanted to represent in a new way. In the end, I decided on the classic, Bulfinch’s Mythology by Thomas Bulfinch, as mythology is a subject I have a lot of interest in. I wanted to incorporate different symbols and items of importance from a multitude of world myths Bulfinch covers. I also wanted to bring in a light-hearted element, because the volume often looks very serious and intimidating. This way the book would draw readers in with illustrations which are familiar to mythology fanatics who may not have heard of this particular anthology and less familiar readers as well.
